The Best Beaches in Las Galeras
-
Playa Rincon
Often considered the most beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic, this beach is enormous. Don’t hesitate to explore it, from Caño Frío all the way to Playa Breman
-

Caño Frio at Playa Rincon
At the western end of Playa Rincón, Cañó Frío is a crystal-clear river flowing into the sea. It forms a series of natural water spots connected by the river’s gentle current, perfect for a refreshing swim in cool, fresh water.
Tip: The spot is especially lively on weekends. Visit on a weekday for a quieter experience!
-

Playa Fronton
This beach has a unique vibe with its dramatic cliffs, reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean. A must-see! Accessible by boat or 1.5-hour hike. If you choose to hike, a guide is strongly recommended, as the path is long and can be challenging. It is also a good spot for rock climbing.
-

Playa Madama
A small and intimate beach known for its natural beauty and less crowded atmosphere. I recommend walking there, it’s a nice hike through the forest, and the path is fairly easy. You can also reach it by boat from Las Galeras.
-

Playa Playita
Playa Playita, also known as Javo Beach, is a beautiful beach with a great view of Rincón Bay, located just a short distance from the center of Las Galeras. It offers amenities such as restaurants, bars, and lounge chairs for rent. Keep in mind that it can get crowded on weekends and during vacation periods.
-

Playa Colorado
Playa Colorado (also called Colorada) is a wild and untouched beach. With its golden sand, clear waters, and usually few people around, it’s perfect for those seeking raw, natural beauty. The sea can be rough at times, adding to the beach’s wild character.
-
Playa Del Aserradero
Playa del Aserradero is a beautiful beach with clear, shallow waters and soft sand. The usual calmness of the sea makes it ideal for families, and it’s a great spot to easily spot sea turtles swimming close to shore.

El Limon Waterfalls
A 40-meter-high waterfall hidden in the jungle. I recommend hiking there rather than going on horseback. There’s also a smaller waterfall along the way.
-
Los Haitises National Park
Los Haitises is one of the Dominican Republic’s most stunning natural treasures. This protected park is known for its dramatic limestone hills, lush mangroves, hidden caves, and ancient Taino petroglyphs. Boat tours weave through the mangrove channels and around small islands, offering a chance to spot wildlife like pelicans and herons.
Remote and wild, Los Haitises feels like stepping into another world — a must-visit for nature lovers and explorers.

Whale Watching in Samaná Bay with Kim Beddall
The waters in the Samana peninsula are a prime location for whale watching as they migrate to the Samana Bay for breeding and calving. Whales start coming in December but, for the respect of the animal, the official period for observing them runs from January, 15th to March ,15th. For a memorable and respectful whale-watching experience, we highly recommend Kim Beddall from Whale Samana. Kim has been known for decades for her extensive knowledge (Mrs Whale) and passion for marine life. Her tours provide not only great chances to see these majestic creatures up close but also a respectful approach to wildlife observation.
